Wenn man nicht steht oder sogar tanzt, wie so oft, wenn Musiker den Hauptraum von Stühlen befreien lassen. Aber die Fabrik ist politisch korrekt. Chartbands mit geleckten Playbackjüngelchen würde man hier bereits nach Minuten häuten und dönern. Nicht nur die politischen Fotoausstellungen sondern auch ein buntes Programm ohne eindeutige Fokussierung auf eine Musikrichtung weisen darauf hin. Hier gibt es oft Jazz, häufig Ethno aus aller Welt, dann wieder alten Rock, Tanzfeten, Gay-Nächte, Flohmärkte, Diskussionsforen, Frühschoppen eben alles was begehrt wird und das hoffentlich noch viele weitere Dekaden! Fabrik is a brilliant concert venue. The roof is so high that it feels like a cathedral, but actually I think it used to be a factory of some kind. There are at least three levels, but when I was there they had only opened up one and a half. Even so there was loads of space. Was there yesterday second time to see Black Seeds from NZ. Great gig and the choice of the venue was perfect: 1 it's relatively small it was about people yesterday and it was full so the band can interact with public and pass on the energy. When you're close to the stage - you feel it! Drinks are sold at the bar, also there is a snack bar in the corner. Verdict: great music venue, will go again. Fabrik is a really interesting venue to see many a "mid-sized" band in Hamburg. We went to see The xx last night, who happened to be fairly mediocre, but everything else here is great. You can buy food inside, there hardly a queue for the beer, no queues for the toilets etc. If you want to get a better view there are 2 levels of gantry in the former factory, which makes this mindful of some set from the crystal maze industrial zone. Quality television, quality venue. Went to see Asian Dub Foundation and was really impressed by the sound, lighting and layout of the place. Can see that this would be an amazing club venue - 3 floors to party on, seating, loads of standing areas - plus space away from the speakers if you need to have a chat! Particularly impressed that the ladies' toilets were clean with no queue and that the drinks were cheap. Highly recommend and looking forward to coming for a proper dance night.
